Fireplace

The living room has been a nightmare since day one.  You can see the crazy wallpaper in the picture below.  The print is a bunch of little red people and animals dancing around at what seems to be a picnic.  The freaky wallpaper wouldn’t come off the wall.  We tried to paint over it because a professional painter said it would be no big deal.  Rolled the paint and the paper just bubbled up.  Then we rented a steamer.  It worked great.  Goodbye wallpaper.  Then we primed the walls and tried to paint them.  Guess what.  People used to paint walls with oil based paint and latex (what’s on your walls) won’t stick to it. It’s like pouring water into oil, it just doesn’t work.  The paint stuck just enough for us to have to scrape it off before it dried(awful).  This is where we are now.  Now that we have made every mistake possible we should be able to get this room done.  It’s the last room and hopefully it will be done tomorrow.

I can’t find a great picture of the mantle before we started tearing it apart but here is one mid-demolition.  It had a mirror built into it and some sort of wood that had zero character.  We are going to put a TV on it and couldn’t come up with a good reason to leave the mirror behind it.  I’ll post the progress…..

Gas Shortage?

Friday, September 19th, 2008

6:00 am I’m in bed trying to remember why I’m not still sleeping. There is something bad about going to sleep when it’s dark and waking up to the same darkness.
I’m awake because I couldn’t find gas last night and need to try to get some before work.  I am driving 4 hours to Alabama after work today for a meeting on Saturday…..only if I can find gas.

6:15 am ——–Shower——–

6:30-7:15 Saved by the Bell–College Years

7:15 am  Now I’m driving around looking for gas like everybody else. I’ve noticed that when I pull up to a gas pump it takes all of 10 seconds for the whole gas station to fill up with cars. It’s actually pretty funny to watch. Oh and everybody that pulls up next to you at the gas station and wants to talk about how this gas shortage is some kind of conspiracy. I love it. haha I really want to look at them and say….shut your mouth don’t you know there is not talking before 8 am!? (yes that is double punctuation—it’s new)

7:20 am  Lot’s of gas stations and lots of crazy people.  Still no gas.

7:30 am I’ve been everywhere that is within reason.  Still no gas.  My gas light is on and I’m going to run out of gas if I keep this up.  I think I will drive towards where I work so that if I run out of gas I will be close.

7:40 am Home Depot to the rescue. I can do it and they helped.  I’m happily paying $4 per gallon for gas.  That’s an attitude change right?  I don’t love seeing high gas prices but I realized today that not seeing any prices is way worse.

I took a picture just in case we run out gas and I never get to do this again.

Well I’m off to work now.  Have fun and get some gas if you can.
